METABOLIC & WEIGHT HEALTH
We provide individualized medical care for adults who want to improve their weight, metabolic health, and overall function. Treatment may include medications such as GLP-1–based therapies when appropriate, with ongoing follow-up focused on your response, health goals, and long-term management.

THE PICTURE
Body weight is regulated by a complex interaction of biology, genetics, appetite, metabolism, medications, sleep, hormones, health conditions, environment, and behavior.
That does not mean lifestyle is irrelevant. Nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and daily habits matter. But telling someone to simply "eat less and move more" ignores much of what we now understand about weight regulation and why maintaining weight loss can be difficult.

The goal of medical weight management is not to assign blame. It is to understand what is contributing, identify meaningful health goals, and determine which tools are appropriate for you.
EVALUATION
Your initial visit is focused on your weight history, previous treatment attempts, medical conditions, medications, eating patterns, physical activity, sleep, family history, and what you hope to change.
Laboratory testing may be used to evaluate metabolic health, identify medical conditions that could be contributing to weight or affecting treatment decisions, and establish baseline information before medication is started.
We also look beyond body weight alone. Blood pressure, glucose regulation, cardiovascular risk, sleep apnea, metabolic disease, physical function, and other weight-related health concerns may influence both treatment goals and medication choices.
The goal is to understand the whole clinical picture rather than simply assign a target weight.
TREATMENT
There is no single weight-management plan that works for everyone.
Treatment may include nutrition and activity changes, review of medications that may be affecting weight, treatment of contributing medical conditions, and weight-management medication when appropriate.
Your medical history, previous response to treatment, current medications, individual risks, preferences, cost, and goals all influence the approach we recommend.
The goal is not the fastest possible weight loss. It is meaningful improvement that can be sustained while supporting your health and function.
MEDICATION
Medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide have changed medical weight management by targeting biological pathways involved in appetite, satiety, and metabolic regulation.
They can produce substantial weight loss for many patients and may also improve metabolic health; some medications have demonstrated cardiovascular benefits in specific patient populations.
They are not interchangeable, and they are not appropriate for everyone. Medication choice, dosing, and dose escalation should be based on your medical history, response, tolerability, treatment goals, and access.

More medication is not automatically better. The appropriate dose is the one that produces meaningful benefit while remaining tolerable and medically appropriate.
HEALTH FIRST
Weight loss should not come at the expense of adequate nutrition, strength, or physical function.
During treatment, attention to protein intake, resistance exercise, hydration, gastrointestinal symptoms, and overall nutritional adequacy may become particularly important, especially when appetite is significantly reduced.
The goal is not simply to become lighter. It is to improve health while maintaining the strength and function that matter in everyday life.
MAINTENANCE
For many people, obesity is a chronic condition, and weight regain after stopping effective treatment is common.
That does not mean every patient will remain on the same medication or dose indefinitely. It does mean that maintenance should be considered from the beginning rather than treated as an afterthought.
As your weight, health, response, or goals change, your treatment plan may change with them.
GOOD CARE
Good weight care avoids two equally unhelpful extremes.
A patient should not be told that weight is entirely a matter of discipline or personal responsibility. They also should not be reduced to a number on a scale or prescribed medication without considering the rest of their health.
Good care asks what is driving the problem, what improving it would mean for you, which treatments have evidence for your situation, and whether those treatments are actually helping.

The goal is not weight loss at all costs. The goal is better health.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Eligibility depends on the medication, your weight and health history, and whether you have weight-related medical conditions or other indications for treatment.
The decision should be based on more than a desire to reach a particular number on the scale.
Often, yes. Obesity is a chronic condition, and studies consistently show that stopping effective medication can lead to substantial weight regain.
Long-term treatment does not necessarily mean remaining on the same medication or dose forever. Maintenance plans can be individualized based on response, tolerability, health goals, and other factors.
Dose escalation is guided by response and tolerability. Some patients achieve meaningful benefit at lower doses, while others may need higher doses to reach treatment goals.
The objective is not to reach the maximum dose. It is to use an appropriate dose that is effective and tolerable.
Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, diarrhea, reflux, or reduced appetite can occur with GLP-1-based medications.
How we respond depends on the symptom and its severity. Treatment may involve changes in meal size or composition, hydration, management of constipation or reflux, slowing dose escalation, reducing the dose, or reconsidering the medication if necessary.
Side effects should be managed rather than simply accepted as the price of treatment.
That is when maintenance begins.
We reassess your medication, dose, nutrition, activity, metabolic health, and risk of weight regain and develop a plan for maintaining the progress you have made.
Reaching a goal weight is not the end of treatment planning.
